Sunderland fans offer mixed reaction to news Stewart Donald is actively trying to sell the club

Sunderland fans have offered mixed reactions to news owner Stewart Donald is actively trying to sell the Black Cats.

The Black Cats owner has come under fire from fans this season after the club narrowly missed out on promotion last season, and then fell to their worst ever league position this term under unpopular manager Phil Parkinson.

That criticism has built steadily since the summer and culminated last week when fan groups Roker Report, Wise Men Say, and Red and White Army, issued a joint statement telling him that any trust in the boardroom had eroded and imploring him to sell up.

Neither Donald nor the club has made any public comment on the fans’ statement, but Donald’s response has been to indicate to BBC Radio Newcastle on Monday that he is looking to sell.

The news has pleased some fans, while the timing of it - two days prior to a vital January transfer window - has left other fans worried he will not provide the funds needed to revitalise their season.

Meanwhile, other fans felt it was merely confirmation of what we already knew when it comes to Donald's intentions for Sunderland, after he twice entered into takeover discussions this year.
