Sunderland fans back Parkinson sacking decision - poll results revealed

Sunderland fans have overwhelmingly backed the decision to sack manager Phil Parkinson.

The Black Cats made the decision on Sunday night following Friday's 1-1 draw at Fleetwood Town, which meant the Wearsiders had gone five games in all competitions without a win.

Parkinson paid the price for a drop off in form which has seen Sunderland lose to MK Dons and pick up a point a piece at Doncaster and Fleetwood.

The hunt is now on for a new manager, with Gus Poyet and Danny Cowley currently leading the betting.

Judging by social media, fans were only too happy to see the back of Parkinson, with the former Bradford boss never truly winning the supporters over on Wearside.

However, our poll was slightly more nuanced, although the result was still heavily in favour of the decision.

As of 10am this morning 82 per cent of those who voted backed the move to sack him, with just 18 per cent feeling it was not the right thing to do.

Sunderland take on Burton Albion at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday evening with coach Andrew Taylor in temporary charge.
