Sunderland fans are all saying the same thing after defeat to Coventry City

Sunderland's chances of winning automatic promotion from League One took a serious dent on Sunday as they were beaten 1-0 by Coventry City.

Matty Godden's early strike proved to be the difference between the two sides, despite the Black Cats having a goal disallowed late in the game.

It lifted Mark Robins' side to the top of the table - six points above the Black Cats, who find themselves four points adrift of automatic promotion in fifth place.

It was just Sunderland's second defeat in their last 16 matches - a period where Phil Parkinson has largely stuck with the same starting XI.

But after defeat to their promotion rivals, Black Cats fans have taken to social media to call for Parkinson to make changes to his side ahead of next Saturday's visit of Gillingham.

Gavin Moan tweeted: "It's going to be interesting to see how the players react to this now, and PP too, things definitely need freshening up, there's a few players haven't been 'on it' for a while now.

"We're not creating enough, and it doesn't help when the few chances we do create are being wasted!"

And Scott Kelly added: "Not saying we 'bottled it', the lads tried but that’s the least we expect.

"Tired legs caught up with us there massively cos they weren’t any great shakes either. Comes down to poor team management for failing to freshen things up a little bit for me."
