Sunderland fans angry as League One season is curtailed, ending their promotion hopes

Sunderland fans are understandably angry after the majority of clubs in League One voted to end the season early and settle final positions via an unweighted points-per-game ratio.

And with the EFL's suggestions of keeping the play-offs to just four teams, the vote ended Sunderland's hopes of promotion this season, with the ppg model resulting in Phil Parkinson's side finishing the season in a record-low eighth place in the third tier.

That has understandably caused anger among Black Cats fans, with Sunderland just three points off second-placed Rotherham with eight games (27 points) still to play when the season was suspended.

The vote means Coventry and Rotherham have been promoted to the Championship, while Oxford, Portsmouth, Fleetwood and Wycombe will contest a four-team play-off to determine the third side to go up.

And while many don't want the unfair decision to deflect attention away from further failings from the club's current owners, it's clear that the decision to end the season early, when the Premier League and Championship are set to restart their seasons next weekend, has angered Sunderland supporters.

Below is a round-up of how Sunderland fans reacted to Tuesday's vote that saw Parkinson's team remaining in League One for a third consecutive season.
