An employee at a factory in Sunderland has died after testing positive for Covid-19.
Sunderland City Council said "a number of employees" at Argus Powerbend North tested positive for the virus and confirmed that one of those had died.
The factory in Pennywell, which employs 126 people, is now working closely with Sunderland Public Health officers and Public Health England North East.
This is to ensure measures are in place to "minimise any risk of further transmission" within the plant.
The plant is part of the Alfagomma Group which provides high-quality design and production of hose and tube assemblies.
A statement from Sunderland City Council said: "Sunderland Public Health officers are working closely with Public Health England North East and Argus Powerbend following a number of employees at its Sunderland plant testing positive for Covid-19 and sadly the subsequent death of one of those employees.
"We would like to express our condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the person who has died.
"Collectively, we are all aiming to ensure that measures are in place to minimise any risk of further transmission within the facility.
"The health and safety of all personnel within the plant remains our top priority and we continue to remind workers across the city to adhere to current Government guidelines and remember the essentials of washing your hands, covering your face and making space."
