Sunderland 'enquire' about Brighton defender Alex Cochrane to bolster defensive options

The Black Cats have enquired about bringing Brighton defender Alex Cochrane to the Stadium of Light, according to reports.

Football Insider claims Sunderland have approached the Gulls to sign the 20-year-old defender who is currently on a season-long loan at Union SG in Belgium.

The website claims a recruitment source told them the club would like to sign the left-back either on loan or permanently with his deal set to expire at the Amex in the Summer.

The Black Cats have reportedly been monitoring his situation with Lee Johnson keen on bringing the versatile defender - who can also operate in midfield, to Wearside.

The Brighton-born defender has featured for England at youth level - for the Under-16s and the Under-20's while also making two senior appearances for the Gulls.

Seagulls boss Graham Potter said he was “impressed” by both the youngster’s attitude and ability when training with the first-team in July last year.
