Sunderland 'drop out' of race for Jordan Gabriel according to latest reports

Blackpool are closing in on a deal for former Sunderland target Jordan Gabriel.

The two clubs have been battling out for the right-back's signature this summer but it's believed that the Tangerines are close to finalising a move for the Nottingham Forest youngster.

The Sun's Alan Nixon has revealed that the Black Cats "dropped out" of the move for Gabriel and that Blackpool have now agreed a fee for the 22-year-old.

Neil Critchley's side have been tracking the defender all summer following a successful loan spell last season.

Sunderland are expected to bring in "one or two" new faces on deadline day with the club still on the hunt for a right-back and cover up front.

Will Grigg is reportedly closing in on a deal with Doncaster Rovers which would free up some additional funds for Lee Johnson ahead of the 11pm deadline.

The Black Cats are currently top of the League One table and head coach Johnson previously said he was happy with where his squad was at, but would not rule out further signings on Deadline Day.

Sunderland have brought in seven new faces after last years disappointing defeat in the play-offs.
