Sunderland drawn against Port Vale in the Papa John's Trophy Third Round

The Black Cats have been drawn against Port Vale in the Third Round of the Papa John's Trophy.

The game will take place at the Stadium of Light on the week commencing January 11.

Lee Johnson's side picked up their first win under his leadership as they defeated Oldham Athletic in the second round of the tournament.

The Valiants are unbeaten in the competition so far, beating Tranmere on penalties, Wigan Athletic and Liverpool Under-21s.

They progressed to the Third Round after defeating Wolves Under-21s 2-1.

The full Northern section draw is as follows:

Tranmere vs Leicester U21s

Lincoln City vs Accrington

Sunderland vs Port Vale

Hull City vs Fleetwood

The Black Cats last faced the Valiants in the FA Cup in 2018, defeating Vale 2-1 thanks to goals from George Honeyman and Lynden Gooch.
