Sunderland defender Luke O'Nien subjected to unsavoury fan incident at Portsmouth

Sunderland have booked their place in the League One play-off final thanks to a 1-0 aggregate win at Portsmouth but the game will also be remembered for some unsavoury scenes.

While Sunderland celebrated their victory over two legs at Fratton Park on Thursday evening, it was hard not to miss a fan incident which included defender Luke O'Nien.

O'Nien ended up on his back in the crowd after a coming together with Portsmouth midfielder Tom Naylor before a Portsmouth fan appeared to kick the Sunderland player whilst he was on the floor.

The game continued without any further furore but Sunderland fans reacted angrily on social media. O'Nien was later booked as the atmosphere clearly got to him late in the second period.

But the good news is the Black Cats are now at Wembley and still have a chance to earn promotion back to the Championship thanks to Chris Maguire's goal in the first leg at the Stadium of Light.

Any repercussions for Portsmouth in regards to the incident will be known in due course.
