Sunderland defender Jack Baldwin mulling loan move to Salford City

Sunderland have accepted a deadline day offer from Salford City to loan centre-back Jack Baldwin.

The 26-year-old has slid down the pecking order on Wearside and manager Jack Ross said recently that Baldwin may have to move on if he wants regular football this season.

League Two Salford are prepared to meet his wages and Baldwin must now decide whether to drop down a division or stay at Sunderland and fight for a place in the side.

Ross also revealed last week that Sunderland had received enquiries about 'one or two' of their players, and the players concerned would have to weigh up their options ahead of today's 5pm transfer deadline and this morning midfielder Ethan Robson has joined League Two Grimsby Town on loan until January.

Baldwin is currently fifth-choice centre-back at Sunderland, behind Jordan Willis , Alim Ozturk , Tom Flanagan , and Joel Lynch , while Conor McLaughlin has also played in central defence ahead of him this season.

The former Hartlepool United and Peterborough man started the majority of Sunderland's games last season but Ross has acted to strengthen his defence by bringing in Willis, Lynch, and McLaughlin over the summer.

Baldwin's only appearance this season has come in the Carabao Cup, when he impressed in a 2-1 win at Premier League Burnley last week.
