Sunderland confirm trip to Tranmere has been pushed back 24 hours

Sunderland have confirmed their trip to Tranmere Rovers next week has been pushed back 24 hours.

The trip to Merseyside had originally been slated for a 7:45pm kick-off on Tuesday, January 28, but will now take place at Rovers' Prenton Park at 7:45pm on Wednesday, January 29, instead.

The move comes as a result of Tranmere's win over Premier League side Watford in the third round of the FA Cup on Thursday evening.

It meant Micky Mellon's side set up a fourth round clash with Manchester United at Prenton Park on Sunday, meaning Tuesday's game with Sunderland had to be put back 24 hours to accommodate Tranmere's participation in the competition.

The move has frustrated some Sunderland fans who had already arranged travel and accommodation on the understanding the game would take place on Tuesday evening. They now have just five days to rearrange their plans.

It comes just a day after Sunderland's trip to Coventry was moved from Saturday, February 29 to Sunday, March 1 at 12pm, with the match being broadcast live on Sky Sports.

The earliest train from Sunderland to Birmingham will not get fans to St Andrew's Stadium before half-time.
