Marc McNulty has replaced George Honeyman as Sunderland's number ten for the new campaign.
Former club captain Honeyman completed his move to Hull City on Friday evening and less than an hour after his departure was confirmed, the club released their squad numbers for the season - revealing new boy McNulty has taken the academy graduate's number.
McNulty is one of five new arrivals on Wearside so far this summer, although Jack Ross is hopeful of adding at least one more before the window closes on September 2.
That will be a left-sided defender following the departure of Bryan Oviedo.
And while academy product Denver Hume is expected to be the Black Cats' first choice left-back next term, it is interesting that Jack Ross has left the number three jersey vacated by Oviedo vacant.
Of the other new signings, Conor McLaughlin has been handed the number two jersey which was vacant after Adam Matthews was released by the club this summer.
Jordan Willis has taken the number four shirt which was worn by Glenn Loovens last term, with the Dutchman instead wearing the previously vacant number 24 shirt.
Lee Burge will wear number 16, previously worn by Reece James, and George Dobson takes the number 18 worn by Donald Love.
Other notable changes see Max Power replace Lee Cattermole as the number six. He wore 27 last season. Elliot Embleton will wear the number 17 shirt worn by Jerome Sinclair and Lewis Morgan.
The final interesting thing of note is that Charlie Wyke has been maintained as Sunderland's number nine for the new season, as Will Grigg remains number 22.
