Sunderland bar undergoes fogging treatment after punter tests positive for Covid-19

A Sunderland bar has reopened after undergoing a deep clean following a positive coronavirus case.

The Farmers Club, in Ryhope, shut on after the punter visited the premises on Friday and later tested positive for the virus.

It is the latest bar that’s been forced to close in the city, following the Poetic License Bar, in Roker, and the 808 Bar and Kitchen.

The board of directors at The Farmers Club has asked customers to follow Government advice around coronavirus.

A statement on social media said: “We have completed a deep clean of the club utilising professional equipment and cleaning agents.

“The club will reopen as normal at 12pm today (Sunday).

“We will continue to adhere to the appropriate guidelines and we ask our members and their guests to continue supporting us in doing this.

“These circumstances are challenging for all of us.”

It comes as after the city was warned a local lockdown was “very close” after a steep increase in cases.

Now the city has been placed on Public Health England's watch list for 'enhanced support' in the fight against Covid-19.

Sunderland businesses have been warned monitoring and spot checks will be carried out to tackle the spread of coronavirus, with the hospitality industry facing additional scrutiny.

Sunderland City Council says businesses failing to implement coronavirus safety measures could face further restrictions or be ordered to close.
