Sunderland back in for Dion Sanderson after promotion back to the Championship, reports

Sunderland are looking to sign former loanee Dion Sanderson this summer after winning promotion back to the Championship. That's according to the Mail, who claim the Black Cats will face competition from Sheffield United for his signature.

Sanderson spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan with the Black Cats and quickly became a fan favourite. he was made to bide his time before establishing himself as a key member of Lee Johnson's squad.

The defender returned to Wolves at the end of his loan and penned a new deal at Molineux before heading back out on loan. The 22-year-old spent the first half of the campaign on loan with Birmingham City before heading to QPR in January for the second-half of the season.

Sunderland are long-term admirers of Sanderson and were linked with a move for the defender again last summer. They weren't alone in their admiration for him, with Sheffield United also keen on signing the centre-back.

The Blades reportedly saw an approach knocked back in January, but Wolves are not adverse to selling the defender, or open to another loan move, in order to generate some revenue ahead of this summer.
