An artist in Sunderland was so inspired by the fundraising efforts of Captain Tom that he painted his picture and put in on eBay raising over £800 for the NHS.
Andrew Parkin, 58, from Seaburn, Sunderland, said he hopes his painting will attract even more money after it raised over £860 in days following an astonishing reaction on social media.
The A4 painting was done in tribute to 99-year-old veteran Captain Tom Moore who raised over £18 million for the NHS by doing 100 laps of his garden.
And now Andrew hopes his painting will add to that amount with 100 per cent of the money raised going to NHS staff on the frontline of the coronavirus.
He said: "It's something I love doing and when I heard about Captain Tom raising all that money I thought I had to do something for him. He's a true hero.
"My dad was called Tom and my uncle was in the army so it really brought it home for me.
"I was very emotional actually, it was like the painting was painting itself, it just appeared.
"I think it would be fantastic if we raised a bit of money for the NHS they're just amazing."
Andrew only began painting six years ago when he was diagnosed with bipolar and said art has become a therapy for him.
And after discovering his hidden talent he went to Sunderland University and was awarded a first in Fine Art.
He said: "For the first year, I just lost my way. If it hadn't of been for my wife and my family I don't know what I would be doing.
"Sometimes I just get so tired, I don't get out of bed. Every day is different, I have good days and bad days.
"It helped when I was going to university because I knew I had to be there for a certain time so it gave me a routine.
"Art really is my therapy, it helps me a lot."
Andrew said one of his biggest inspirations is notorious prisoner Charles Bronson, now known as Charles Salvador.
The pair regularly write to each other and Andrew even attended his wedding.
He said: "We write to each other, I've visited him three times he really has inspired me. He said we were born again artists."
The actions of Captain Tom have sent a wave of inspiration to people up and down the country.
So much so that another budding artist from County Durham also drew a picture of the veteran in a bid to raise money for the NHS.
Dermott Gardner, 56, is isolating at home for twelve weeks due to him being considered high risk.
After contracting several viruses in America, Dermott became severely paralysed and now relies on a motorised wheelchair and ventilator.
Although he has jerking movements in his hand and body, Dermott discovered his passion for art and recently drew a stunning picture of Captain Tom.
He hopes to put it on eBay and donate all the money raised to the NHS.
Dermott said: "It really touched me to see someone raise so much in such a short space of time, it was amazing.
"My daughter is an occupational therapist and she's not too well at the moment but she's still trying to go to work as much as she can so I do worry about her. All the people working on the frontline of this are amazing.
"The NHS is brilliant for me, I've seen lots of different departments and they've always done their best for me. If there's ever an emergency the response time is incredible, I have nothing but admiration for them.
"I also wanted to thank my carers who come in five times a week and sit with me to give my wife a break, they're all amazing.
"If I can raise even a small amount to get a bit of equipment then I'd be happy. I think this has really shown us the value of our family and to appreciate everything."
Dermott is also selling a selection of his paintings with all money going towards the NHS.
