Sunderland and Portsmouth 'close to agreeing a fee' for Plymouth forward Freddie Ladapo

Sunderland and Portsmouth are close to agreeing a fee in the region of £500,000 fee to sign Plymouth forward Freddie Ladapo.

That is according to our sister title Plymouth Live, who claim that the two League One clubs have returned for the 26-year-old this summer after seeing bids rejected for him during the January transfer window.

Interest is high in Ladapo, who despite scoring 19 goals for Argyle last season could not save Argyle from being relegated to League Two.

Another club is believed to have made an offer for Ladapo, with Championship side Brentford holding a long-time interest in the former Southend United striker.

There is also said to be a couple of Scottish Premiership sides interested in Ladapo, with new manager Ryan Lowe keen to recoup a decent transfer fee to use on improving his squad this summer.

Sunderland are known to be in the market for another forward this summer with Charlie Wyke and Will Grigg both struggling to find the net on a consistent basis last season.

Aside from Ladapo, sources in Scotland claim the Black Cats have also offered a contract to 23-year-old forward Lawrence Shankland.

Shankland scored 34 goals in 41 games for Ayr United and is available on a free transfer this summer. Portsmouth are also known to be interested in the former Aberdeen hitman, as well as a number of Scottish Premiership and Championship sides.

It is also believed Sunderland remain interested in signing Doncaster forward John Marquis.
