Sunderland and Durham make Zoopla top 20 cities with homes for sale that need a makeover

Zoopla has revealed the cities with the most homes in need of renovation with Sunderland and Durham making the top 20 on the list.

MyJobQuote recently found that 78% of Brits are unhappy with their homes as lockdown has left many restless and wanting to move.

But with the UK now in a recession and unemployment at an all-time high, relocating isn’t an easy task. However, a cheaper option is available: some Brits are looking for fixer-upper properties in a different location to avoid hefty prices.

MyJobQuote recently found the results by scouring Zoopla for house listings, the number of houses needing renovation compared to the total number available.

Sunderland came in 14th place on the list with 122 out of 588 homes on the market that need renovating. The 122 homes make up 20% of the homes on the market in the city.

While Durham came out at number 18 with 38 houses needing renovation out of 197 houses for sale. The houses needing renovation make up 19.4% of the houses currently on the market.

Coming in first place according to Zoopla’s data 60.6% of houses for sale in Belfast require extra work. While in second place, Derry with 35.9% of listed properties in need of renovation.

Third place is awarded to an English city. Of the 1,188 listed houses, 35.2% (418) of those in Brighton need work.

In fourth, fifth and sixth place are Wolverhampton, Hull and Canterbury with 32.8%, 31.4% and 29.5% of houses requiring work respectively.
