Sunderland AFC transfer news: Youngster to join Manchester United; Liam Boyce latest

Young Sunderland defender Logan Pye is set to join Manchester United, according to reports.

Pye has shone for the under-18s but looks set to become the latest Black Cats academy star to be snapped up by a top Premier League club.

Sam Greenwood (Arsenal), Luca Stephenson and Luke Hewitson (Liverpool) have all left for top Premier League sides in recent seasons and now Pye looks set to join them.

According to 90min.com, Pye is set to finalise terms with the Red Devils before joining the Old Trafford club. Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool were also said to be interested in the 16-year-old.

The report claims he is already in the North West ahead of the move.

Meanwhile, Nigel Clough has issued an update on the future of Northern Ireland international forward Liam Boyce.

Sunderland have been credited with an interest in the Burton Albion hitman who has 14 goals to his name this term.

Phil Parkinson has already signed Boyce's international team-mate Kyle Lafferty, while Charlie Wyke has impressed recently.

But he is keen to bolster his forward options further with both Marc McNulty and Will Grigg's immediate Sunderland futures up in the air.

Parkinson has admitted Boyce is a player the Black Cats are monitoring and given he has just six months remaining on his contract, Sunderland were hoping to nab Boyce at a bargain price.

And speaking this morning, Clough revealed they have rejected two bids already this month for the 28-year-old.

“There is still interest in Liam Boyce and we have had two bids which have been rejected.”

Clough's quotes come as a report credited Scottish Premiership side Hearts with an interest in Boyce. It is certainly one to watch across the next 10 days.
