With nine league games remaining this season, Sunderland have automatic promotion to the Championship in their sights.
Put simply, if Sunderland win all nine games between now and the end of the season they will win promotion.
Such is their points total, a play-off place is virtually assured.
But regardless of the division they are playing in, Sunderland will be looking to strengthen their squad next season.
To do that, Jack Ross will have to move on current members of the playing squad. The likes of Bryan Oviedo and Lee Cattermole are on Premier League-level wages, while there are a number of players in the final few months of their contracts.
