Sunderland add trio of signings to the club's U23 squad ahead of the new season

Sunderland have added three new signings to their U23 squad, with Sam Wilding, Bobby Beaumont, and Vinnie Steels joining the club.

The trio have each signed one-year deals and will become part of Elliott Dickman's development side next season.

Midfielder Wilding came through the youth system at West Bromwich Albion and the 20-year-old impressed on trial with the Black Cats last season. He has also spent a loan spell with National League North side Leamington.

Defender Beaumont was previously with Wrexham where the 18-year-old made a couple of first-team appearances, and he is a former Wales Schools' FA captain.

Winger Steels started out in Sunderland's academy but later moved on to Darlington, York City, and then Burnley, but the 19-year-old has now returned to Wearside.

Sunderland U23 coach Dickman said: "We had the lads in training before lockdown so we're fully aware of their capabilities, but it's nice to add some new faces to the group.

"Bobby is a good character and he's willing to learn. He can also play anywhere along the backline, so that's a big plus for us.

"We had Sam on trial last season and he was really keen to join us.

"He's a defensive midfielder that loves to break up play and he's technically very good.

"Vinnie was with us when he was younger and he's had a bit of a journey playing men's football at a young age.

"He's a quick, direct winger and we're really looking forwardto working with him.

"They are all welcome additions to the squad ahead of what we hope will be a successful season."
