Sunderland 2-4 Burnley player ratings as excellent first half displays are thrown into reverse

Sunderland saw a two-goal half-time lead evaporate in front of their eyes, as they ended up well-beaten by Burnley. The Black Cats led 2-0 at the break, thanks to goals from Amad Diallo and Dan Neil.

Sunderland's first half performances were excellent, and Burnley were booed off by the visiting fans when the half-time whistle went. But the second half was a completely different story as Burnley came roaring back.

Nathan Tella and substitute Manuel Benson hauled the visitors level by the hour mark. And then Anass Zarouri completed the turnaround, before Josh Brownhill added the fourth goal in the dying minutes.

Here's how James Hunter rated the Sunderland players today.

Anthony Patterson 6

Few saves to make but still picked the ball out his net four times. Might have done better with the second

Trai Hume 5

Did well for 45 minutes in his first start of the season, but in the second half Sunderland were collectively poor

Luke O'Nien 5

A very good first half, but the less said about the second, the better

Danny Batth 5

Similar to O'Nien, for 45 minutes they dealt with Burnley comfortably. After half-time, however...

Dennis Cirkin 5

Could not handle half-time substitute Benson in the second half

Corry Evans 6

Was having a good game until he tired

Dan Neil 6

Scored Sunderland's second goal, but was caught in possession for Burnley's fourth

Amad Diallo 6

Scored Sunderland's first, and looked a much better player operating in his natural wide role

Elliot Embleton 6

A threat in the final third, in the first half at least

Alex Pritchard 6

Like the rest of the team, excellent in the first half but well below-par in the second

Jack Clarke 6

Provided the assist for Amad and should have scored in the second

Subs

Jewison Bennette 5

For Pritchard 65mins. Came on when it was already one-way traffic

Abdoullah Ba 5

For Embleton 74mins. Could not turn the tide

Edouard Michut 5

For Evans 74mins. Fresh legs, but unable to make an impact

Not used: Bass, Dajaku, Wright, Matete
