Sunderland 1-1 Rotherham United player ratings as Matete is off-the-pace and Stewart is nullified

Sunderland were bailed out by a last-minute own-goal, as they forced a draw against promotion-chasing Rotherham United. The Black Cats trailed to Michael Ihiekwe's first half header from a set-piece, but the Millers defender then put through his own net to gift Sunderland a point.

Sunderland dropped to fifth in the table, but now know that a win on the final day at Morecambe will guarantee a play-off place. But this was a below-par performance from the Wearsiders, who failed to manage a single shot on target all evening.

Prior to the own-goal, the closest they came was a free-kick from substitute Alex Pritchard which found the sidenetting. Rotherham were the better side throughout, but the draw meant they missed out on the chance of all-but securing automatic promotion.
