Sunderkand recitals for Hanuman’s lessons, says Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal

NEW DELHI: Celebrating Hanuman Janmotsav, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that there would be special recitals of “Sunderkand” of the Ramayana across the city.

“Sunderkand” is said to be the most interesting segment of the epic where the hero is not Rama, but Hanuman. The chapter deals with his heroic adventures in Lanka where he went in search of Sita.

Kejriwal made the announcement at an event in Gole Market in his assembly constituency of New Delhi. The event was organised by the Delhi government’s Teerth Yatra Development Committee. The “Sunderkand” was staged by RN Heritage Foundation and Indian Revival Group.

The AAP national convener, who offered prayers to Lord Hanuman, said many people felt relieved of the problems in their life by just chanting the name of Hanuman. “You have given us the responsibility to work for Delhi, and we simply take Lord Hanuman’s name, seek his blessings and do our best to rid you of all your problems. It is our aim to make sure that the people of Delhi do not have to bear with difficulties related to health, education and other facilities.”

He added, “New Delhi assembly constituency will mark the beginning of this novel tradition today, and the whole of Delhi in the coming future. This performance will be showcased to make the residents more aware of the life and lessons of Lord Hanuman.”

During a procession, AAP’s Greater Kailash MLA, Saurabh Bharadwaj, said people of the Muslim community came out to celebrate and distribute prasad even when they were observing roza. “Such shobha yatras don’t create tension and fear, but promote peace and harmony,” he said.

BJP functioanries, too, participated in various events. North East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari recited “Akhand Ramayana” at a temple in Karol Bagh. Delhi Congress workers, led by state president Ch Anil Kumar, organised a puja and a bhandara at the party office near ITO.
