Sunday's recap: White Sox 4, Indians 1

March 30--The summary

Right-hander Scott Carroll, trying to state his case to make the squad as a long reliever and spot starter, earned the victory, pitching three innings in his first spring start as the White Sox beat the Indians 4-1 in Goodyear, Ariz. He gave up one unearned run on two hits, walked one and struck out one.

At the plate

Tyler Flowers went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and George Kottaras added a two-run double.

On the mound

Closer David Robertson pitched a scoreless inning in his return to the mound after forearm soreness. Jace Fry, a 2014 third-round draft pick, pitched three scoreless innings to finish the game.

In the field

Filling in at shortstop, Gordon Beckham committed a throwing error in the first inning as the Indians scored their only run.

B side

Left-hander John Danks gave up seven runs -- six earned -- on seven hits, walked one and struck out two over 61/3 innings in a minor-league game. He threw 98 pitches.

Waivers loss

The Sox lost first baseman Andy Wilkins on a waiver claim to the Blue Jays. Wilkins played in 17 games for the Sox in September, hitting .140.

The quote

"Last year I did it for a month, and it was something I really enjoyed. And also I was productive in it, so hopefully they see me as an integral piece to be able to do that for the bullpen." -- Carroll on long relief.
