Sunday's recap: White Sox 10, Athletics 4

March 09--The summary

The White Sox used a six-run fourth inning to pull away from the A's in a 10-4 victory. Designated hitter Jose Abreu and center fielder Adam Eaton each hit a two-run double during the surge.

At the plate

Sox catcher Rob Brantly and third-base sub Tyler Saladino each went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Catcher George Kottaras hit a ninth-inning homer.

On the mound

Jeff Samardzija gave up two earned runs on three hits over three innings. The A's two-run, third-inning spurt started when Jason Pridie's double bounced off the glove of Eaton.

In the field

Gordon Beckham made his first spring start at shortstop. He contributed to two double plays, including one that helped Samardzija erase a leadoff walk to Billy Butler in the second inning.

Key number

3: Total earned runs allowed by Sox starters in 11 innings pitched the first time through the spring rotation. That turn doesn't include the injured Chris Sale, who hasn't made a start.

The quote

"I don't necessarily put a bar on him. Just let him go, and you trust the fact that he's coming in ready to work. He's not caught up in (personal) numbers. ... He's worried about wins and losses. That's what you like out of your leaders." -- Sox manager Robin Ventura on Abreu.
