Sunday's recap: Royals 5, White Sox 4

Aug. 10--The White Sox are winless in six games in Kansas City this year after a 5-4 loss to the Royals on Sunday. The Royals jumped on Jose Quintana with three runs in the first and scored the winner off Jake Petricka in the eighth.

Turning point

With the score tied 4-4 with one out in the eighth, Alex Rios singled and Paulo Orlando hit a ground-rule double to center to put runners on second and third.

Pivotal play

Jose Abreu fielded Omar Infante's roller in the infield, but his throw to catcher Geovany Soto was too high to catch Rios, who scored the winning run. Soto was in for Tyler Flowers, who left the game with cramps.

At the plate

Adam Eaton doubled, advanced on a groundout and scored on Melky Cabrera's single in the eighth to tie the score.

Key number

0 -- Quintana victories in 16 career starts against the Royals.

The quote

"You get the ball you want hit, maybe a little harder, but that's just an unfortunate play. ... A tough play by Jose, but he at least made a good effort." -- Sox manager Robin Ventura on the Royals' winning play

The quote II

"They play hard every game. We were playing just as hard, but we just didn't get the break this time. You can always say you missed an opportunity, but it's just a break one way or another." -- Petricka
