9pm, FOX

Changing history through time travel? This dramatic staple gets another workout in this Stephen King adaptation, which stars James Franco as Jake Epping, a jaded teacher who’s shown a portal to 1960 and charged with preventing the JFK assassination. As daft as the premise might be, this is an engaging opener, having fun with the little details as well as the overarching themes. Jake’s mission jostles for space with more everyday revelations, including the quality of 60s food and the joys of gambling with prior knowledge. Phil Harrison

Hidden Britain By Drone

8pm, Channel 4
Dinky drones get a fair bit of bad press but with certain tasks it’s just a lot less bother with a hover. In this new two-parter, Tony Robinson oversees his own aerial surveillance operation, sending camera-enabled robo-spies into hard-to-access areas of the UK. These drones capture characteristically floaty footage of tanks on manoeuvres around a remote, long-abandoned village on Salisbury Plain before penetrating deep into a second world war bunker and having a nose round a former nuclear weapons storage facility. Graeme Virtue

The Durrells

8pm, ITV
Comedy-drama from Simon Nye, adapting Gerald Durrell’s Corfu trilogy. This week, Gerald and his plucky family continue their attempts to acclimatize to their adoptive home, but they face a number of problems. There’s no money. Their house is falling down. And while Gerry spends his time collecting beetle specimens and charming the locals, his siblings are no practical help to their poor mother (Keeley Hawes) at all: Margo and Leslie are in love, while Larry is drunk. A visit to the condescending Mrs Petridis offers no solace. John Robinson

Undercover

9pm, BBC1
Shown mostly in flashback, Nick and Maya’s first meeting is played out to the backdrop of racial tension in the mid-90s. Nick’s previous undercover case finds him deep in the murky world of drug gangs, but when the prosecution goes sour he’s reassigned and thrust into the violent turmoil of an anti-racist group and its charismatic leader (Sope Dirisu). Writer Peter Moffat appears to offer a tad more respect to his audience in this second episode, withholding less and giving more reason for you to care what happens to these people. Ben Arnold

Home Fires

9pm, ITV
Like the lovechild of Downton Abbey and Heartbeat, the wartime drama continues with its air-raid sirens and elegantly coiffed women. Thanks to the local papers, the word is out about the Bowers’ divorce, and Laura gets hassle from the community gossips when she’s exposed as the other woman. Stan’s home on leave and determined to prepare the house so Steph can defend herself in the event of an invasion, and Frances (Samantha Bond) gets a shock when Peter’s will is read, revealing a big secret about her late husband. Hannah Verdier

The Sky At Night

10pm, BBC4
“Transformational” was the gobsmacked verdict of physicists in February after finally detecting gravitational waves – ripples in the space-time fabric predicted by Einstein. To put it even more excitingly, this was the collision of two black holes – usually the preserve of science fiction. In this Sky At Night special, Professor Stephen Hawking discusses the implications of the discovery and asks whether we’re now on the verge of unlocking some vast cosmic mystery, like hooting apes before a big black monolith. Ali Catterall

Wild Things

7pm, Sky1
A return to the Wild Wood for a second series of challenges faced by the fast and the furriest. New games and new animals aside, the central premise remains identical: one group of contestants don sight-obstructing cuddly-critter costumes and are expected to blindly battle obstacles en route to a £10,000 prize pot, while civvie-clothed co-contestants direct them via radio headset. As ever, Kate Humble and Jason Byrne are on hosting duties and, as ever, it’s not just the furrees having trouble seeing the point of it all. Mark Gibbings- Jones

Film Choice

Changeling
(Clint Eastwood, 2008), 10.15pm, ITV3
Another of Eastwood’s lustrous late-period movies, this old-fashioned drama is based on a true story about corruption in 1920s Los Angeles. Angelina Jolie impresses as a telephone company worker whose son disappears for six months. When the police finally return him to her, she insists he is not her boy. It’s a superbly constructed whydunnit that exerts a steadily tightening grip. Paul Howlett

Snow White & The Huntsman

(Rupert Sanders, 2012), 6.35pm, Film4
A murky, muddy, bloody telling of the Brothers Grimm fairytale: Kristen Stewart is Snow White, Charlize Theron, AKA Imperator Furiosa of Mad Max fame, is the evil stepmother, and Chris Hemsworth the lowly huntsman whose heroic prowess is bigged up in this teen-friendly adaptation. Overlong, but the dwarves are fun, with Ray Winstone and Bob Hoskins in their ranks. The sequel, Winter’s War, is released soon. PH
