Sunday jogger accidentally clipped a Mercedes parked on the kerb - the driver chased him down and attacked him

Police have appealed for witnesses after a Sunday jogger was attacked by a Mercedes driver in Wilmslow.

The 33-year-old victim was running Stanley Road in Handforth when he accidentally knocked a black Mercedes which was parked on a kerb.

But the car followed the runner and then pulled alongside him on Manchester Road towards Wilmslow.

The driver got out, assaulted the runner with a dinner plate and then ran away in the direction of Handforth, according to police.

The victim was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital for treatment to facial injuries.

Today (Friday) Cheshire Police issued an appeal to the public to help catch the attacker following the incident at 3pm on Sunday, May 30.

Officers say they are following 'a number of lines of enquiry'.

PC Hollie Geal, of Macclesfield Local Policing Unit, said: "Since the assault took place we have been conducting CCTV enquiries and attempting to speak to a number of witnesses who are believed to have seen the assault take place.

"As part of the investigation I am encouraging anyone with information to make contact with police or if you have dash cam or CCTV footage that hasn’t been provided to us then please get in touch.

"If you think you may know the identity of the offender or were in the area at the time and not yet spoken to officers please come forward.”
