Sunday Golf El Camino S-Series Stand Bag Review

Sunday Golf black leather bag main and close up of ball pocket.

The Sunday Golf El Camino S-Series Stand Bag is arguably one of the best looking golf bags on the market thanks to its sleek and minimalist leather look.

The bag is designed for 10 clubs and those golfers who like to walk the course. If you're only carry a half set or are looking for a bag to walk nine holes with along with 10 clubs, the El Camino bag is made for you and easily one of the best lightweight golf bags on the market.

I tested the S-Series version, which is leather and waterproof. It's a stunning looking bag and has a real premium feel.

The first thing I noticed upon arrival was how small the bag is. It's certainly thinner than a regular stand bag, as you'd expect, but it's just a little too tight for those hoping to fit a full 14-set of clubs in. If you do hold 14 clubs, you'll struggle to fit them in and could end up damaging the shafts of your clubs when pulling them out.

The El Camino comes with a 4-way top divider and is surprisingly spacious in the pocket department. There's a long, main pocket that can easily house some waterproofs or a sweater, and there's a rangefinder pocket on the outside. It is the perfect size for a laser but is almost inaccessible when the main pocket is full so may be better use for other items if you don't have a laser or want to clip it to the top from your usual case.

There's also a valuables pocket, another pocket that will hold around a dozen balls and a cooler pocket as well, which has plenty of room for a drink or two. The cooler pocket is very cool and has to be one of the best on the market.

On the outside, there's a handy elasticated netted section that holds two golf balls and you've also got room to store some tees on the outside as well as your glove.

It's got a solid base and a nice, adjustable double strap plus as a sturdy grab handle. Everything feels super premium with the El Camino S-Series barring the waterproof cover, which feels slightly on the cheap and thin side, which is a surprise considering how high quality the rest of the bag feels. I was expected a leather cover but it's a standard, thin one - albeit it's very easily rolled down and takes up barely any room when stored in the bag so that can also be considered a pro for those looking to save space.

As long as you're only planning on carrying no more than 10 clubs clubs, I found just one real negative of the bag and that is its complete lack of umbrella storage. Even if you're looking for a light bag to walk some holes with, there's always the risk of the heavens opening - and you'll have to stuff your umbrella into the main 4-way divider or simply carry it around with you like a walking stick.

This feels like a bit of an oversight and is probably the only thing that lets the bag down. It is fully waterproof, though, so if you're wearing waterproofs already and aren't a fan of umbrellas, like some golfers, then you'll be just fine.

Overall, the El Camino S-Series is a stunning looking bag that is well made and serves a great purpose for golfers who carry a half (or near-full) set. If that sounds like you and you're looking for something sleek, this can be considered one of the best waterproof bags you can buy.
