Sunday for Sammy audience join in the Run for Home sing-along at the show finale

It's always a defining moment of the show when the band on stage at Sunday for Sammy strikes up the opening notes of Run for Home and the audience can't wait to join in.

Sunday night at the Utilita Arena saw thousands sing along to the Lindisfarne hit with the band's Ray Laidlaw on drums and Billy Mitchell leading the vocals.

They were joined on stage by the rest of the cast of mainly North East celebrities for a rousing finale which had fans on their feet and cheering them on..

And, as one, they shared the crowning moment of a show which had run over three and a half hours - no mean feat for the singers, actor and musicians who had performed it once already that day.

The biennial fund-raiser, which this year featured Jimmy Nail and Joe McElderry among its line-up, raises money to help up-and-coming entertainers in honour of late actor Sammy Johnson.

This year marked the 20 year anniversary of the show dubbed The Geordie Command Performance and, as usual, it was recorded for DVD.
