Sun worshippers gathered at a popular swimming spot yesterday despite lockdown rules remaining in place.

As with most of the UK, Richmond Falls in North Yorkshire was basked in sunshine yesterday.

Temperatures reached 25C at the beauty spot, which is normally popular with swimmers and sunbathers throughout the area, Gazette Live reported.

Although social distancing measured brought in by the Government still forbid people from congregating outside, the Falls were bustling yesterday.

People who live nearby took to social media to render the behaviour of those larking around at the waterfall as "unacceptable" and "stupid".

One user wrote: "This stops local, sensible people being able to enjoy their own surroundings. I wonder how many infections they have just brought into our town."

Another said: "So we have been asked to adhere to guidelines for the safety of the majority and some still won't listen."

And another added: "Seriously though, how stupid can people be? This is unacceptable and should not be happening. Watch out for the next spike in deaths coming up."

Government rules allow the public to meet one other person from a different household outdoors as long as they follow social distancing guidelines.
