Sun, rain and mild temperatures: Met Office reveals the forecast this Christmas Day and Boxing Day

The sun will shine on Christmas Day after a drizzly Christmas Eve and more rain on Boxing Day to come.

As the festivities draw closer, many families will have been hoping to see snow this December.

However, forecasters say there is unlikely to be a white Christmas this year in the North East.

Forecaster for the Met Office Grahame Madge told us what we can expect from the weather on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

He said: "Today is generally overcast with some brighter periods and temperatures about 6C.

"It's going to be a pretty good day tomorrow so it will be sunny spells , probably wall to wall sunshine for the majority of the day.

"It might start to cloud up towards the overnight period.

"Going into Boxing Day there is a strong chance of rain.

"That will remain the case during the day.

"There will be a chance of heavier rain in the morning.

"Friday will have rain beginning and then clearer skies from the afternoon onwards.

"Temperatures are not too bad for the time of year.

"We're looking at 8C on Friday as a daytime high, 5C on Boxing Day and probably around 6C on Christmas Day."
