I know the Sun loathes the BBC and all its works. (Of course, this view is not influenced by its owner, Rupert Murdoch, loathing the BBC and all its works). But the latest attempt to tarnish the broadcaster is pathetic.
The Sun on Sunday’s page 11 lead today is headlined “BBC boss hid secret family from his wife”.
It is accompanied by a picture showing the BBC’s director general, Lord Hall, with the former BBC Trust chair, Lord Patten, and another former trustee, Anthony Fry, who were giving evidence to a parliamentary committee in 2013.
The story is about Fry, who stepped down from his trust role in 2013. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the BBC. Anyway, a trustee is not a “boss”. The reference to Fry’s past connection to the BBC is superfluous.
So the two-word opening to the headline was inaccurate. The presentation suggested otherwise. The story had no relevance to the BBC. It is just one of the many examples in which the Sun shows undue prejudice against Britain’s public service broadcaster.
