Sun drenched Lark Lane café serving £9 breakfast I could eat every day - review

I visited a beautiful, sun-drenched café in south Liverpool and had a wonderful breakfast that I wish I could eat every single day.

Lark Lane is known and loved for its medley of independent cafes, restaurants and shops. Minna, next door to Milo Lounge, is a relatively new spot on the lane that's quickly making its mark.

I fancied a deviation from traditional breakfast options, so ventured to Minna in search of something a little different. Minna boasts a menu packed with all day breakfast, brunch and lunch options that are sure to please those craving a change from a standard full English.

As soon as you venture inside, the impeccably stylish décor sets the precedent for the rest of your stay. There's an elaborate, carved wooden bar with a marble top.

Brushed brass beer pumps stand proudly on the bar, with other subtle gold touches littered throughout the bright, airy space. There's vibrant green foliage, wicker chairs with white metal legs juxtaposing modern design with the familiarity of the old.

Exposed brick walls ensure the space remains cool and calming, and some are painted white, which means no matter how busy it is, the little venue never feels stuffy or over-crowded - though its attentive staff may disagree with me on their busier days.

The ceiling is painted in a strong, warm pink shade - an interior choice I will absolutely be emulating in my own home one day. The front, leading onto the Lane, is kitted out with huge glass windows and glass doors, letting as much sunlight as possible flood the space.

Towards the back, there's a stunning marble fireplace adorned with plants, that leads to an intimate yet surprisingly spacious courtyard offering outdoor seating. The beautiful, calming space is made even more enjoyable by its decent menu.

Minna specialises in brunch and lunch, made with fresh seasonal produce. There's breakfasts; French toast; salads with peaches and walnuts; a selection of eggs; Cumberland muffins; ricotta and figs on sourdough; brunch venue favourite avocado on toast, and more. I opted for Minna's Roast Squash Sourdough (£8.50).

It's made with roasted squash, goat's cheese, pumpkin seeds, gremolata, and sourdough. Unlike a lot of sourdough dishes, Minna's wasn't too tough or dry, it was absolutely perfect. It was drizzled in oil without being too greasy - quite the achievement.

The roasted squash was fresh and tender, and managed to be soft while maintaining a bit of a bite. The feta cheese was rich and tangy, the perfect amount of crumbly, complimenting the flavours. It was finished with a small, fresh salad.

I am completely besotted with this dish. It's decadent and filling without being too much, and if I could eat every day, then I absolutely would. I will recommend Minna, and this delightful dish, to anyone and everyone. You can find Minna at 94 Lark Lane, Liverpool L17 8UU.
