Sun and temperatures of up to 21°C expected after a foggy start to the weekend

Temperatures could reach up to 21°C in the North East this weekend as sunny weather is expected.

The region woke up to a blanket of fog on Saturday and there is a risk of showers on the afternoon.

However things are looking up on Sunday with a warm and dry day predicted along with soaring temperatures.

Here is the full forecast from the Met Office:

Saturday

"Rather cloudy at first but some decent spells of sunshine developing by the afternoon. Largely dry although an afternoon shower may form across the Pennines. Misty near coasts with a chance of fog. Maximum temperature 20 °C."

Saturday evening

"A fine night with long clear spells developing once evening cloud melts away. Low cloud and mist plaguing coasts, with some fog, will spread inland. Minimum temperature 5 °C."

Sunday

"Another fine day and remaining dry across all areas. Feeling warm by the afternoon with strong sunshine. Remaining misty near coasts. Maximum temperature 21 °C."

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday

"Dry and warm much of the period. Cooler near coasts, with a chance of low cloud and fog at first, mainly overnight. Becoming rather more breezy. Showers likely by Wednesday."
