Summerlee revving up for a special weekend as classic car show returns

Vintage cars from the last eight decades will take centre stage at Summerlee museum this weekend as the Coatbridge attraction stages its popular classic car show.

Members of Gartcosh Classic and Sports Car Club will display an eclectic mix of vehicles dating from the 1930s up to the early Noughties.

A total of 25 cars will be on display, with this year’s show being “on a smaller scale than previous years, to help maintain government guidelines and keep everyone safe”.

It takes place this Sunday (August 1) and runs from 10am to 3pm. Entry to Summerlee is free but must be booked online in advance.

There will also be a busy programme of arts and crafts running from 11am to 4pm on the day, with outdoor fun including giant games, spinners, space hoppers, girds and cleeks and mini golf.

It forms part of North Lanarkshire Council’s summer of play programme, which continues for the next two weeks at both the Coatbridge venue and the North Lanarkshire Heritage Centre in Motherwell.

Free attractions at the two venues include retro video games, parkour, crafts and messy science, plus a celebration of national playday at Summerlee next Wednesday, August 4.

The busy play programme is funded by Museums Galleries Scotland as part of the Scottish Government’s “get into summer” programme, supporting opportunities for children and young people to socialise, play and reconnect.
