Summer Solstice 2021 - what you should know about Glasgow's longest day

Today's the day - the summer solstice is here.

It's the longest day of the year, and occurs annually on June 21.

According to timeanddate.com, Glasgow will see 17 hours and 35 minutes of daylight, with the sun setting very late at around 10.06pm.

The amount of daylight varies across the UK and Scotland’s position in the north of Europe puts us closer to the North Pole, which has continuous sunlight on the solstice.

Sadly today's event means our days will soon become shorter and the countdown to winter begins.

Yes - winter - the dark, dull and freezing cold days where some of us will inevitably get stuck on the roads as soon as a drop of snow falls.

So good luck if you have to get up early.

Thankfully, the shortest day of the year, the winter solstice, isn't until December 21 so you won't notice a change just yet - 182 days to be precise.
