Summer scorcher in East Kilbride and Strathaven but Met Office issue THUNDERSTORM WARNING

Despite the summer sunshine beating down on locals today the Met Office have issued a weather warning for thunderstorms in East Kilbride and Strathaven.

Temperatures are expected to peak around 30 degrees today, but those heading to sun loungers and beer gardens have been urged to take care.

The Met Office state that there will be "heavy showers and thunderstorms will bring difficult travelling conditions and localised flooding" today and tomorrow.

They say this could result in "driving conditions will be affected by spray", as well as "standing water and/or hail" which will result in longer journey times by car and bus

This could also lead to "delays to  train services  " and "some short term loss of power and other services is likely."

The heavy thunderstorms could damage "a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes."

There is also a risk of "some flooding of a few homes and businesses."

The weather warning is in place until the early hours of tomorrow morning.
