Summer Parade celebrates South Tyneside Festival with a blaze of colour

A spectacular Summer Parade celebrated South Tyneside Festival in style on Saturday with flamboyance, feathers and fantasy.

An array of colourful costumes were on display and made the most of this year's space fantasy theme chosen to mark the 50-year anniversary of the Moon landing.

Crowds turned out to watch the procession through South Shields , which is a showpiece event held as part of the the three-month South Tyneside Festival.

Local carnival company Creative Seed designed the lavish costumes which were shown to their best effect as the sun came out and the parade made its way from the Town Hall towards the sea front.

And then a range of music and entertainment continued the space fantasy theme in Bents Park.
