Summer Nights at Kelvingrove Bandstand postponed until 2022 over covid uncertainty

Summer Nights at the Bandstand, hosted annually in Kelvingrove Park, has been postponed for another year.

In an announcement today by the event organisers, this year's event has been called off due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Music lovers had been hoping to see the likes of King Creosote, Suzanne Vega, Richard Hawley, Belinda Carlisle and Rufus Wainwright at the 2500-capacity open-air venue in July and August.

The latest news about the Summer Nights cancellation emerged shortly after an announcement on Scotland's latest lockdown restrictions confirmed theatres, museums, concert venues and comedy clubs are allowed to reopen on 17th May in line with social distancing measures.

The statement from promoters Regular Music on the postponement said: “It is with a heavy heart that, due to physical distancing measures that are still likely to be in place in July, we have taken the decision to postpone this year’s Summer Nights at the Bandstand until 2022.

"As much as we would dearly love to be able to return this summer, it will not be possible to go ahead with the festival with restrictions in place or to guarantee the experience that everyone has come to expect.”

The news comes after a number of events pulled the plug on their summer plans, such as Skye Live Festival, Kelburn Garden Party and Midstock Festival.

A series of outdoor concerts are still due to go ahead in Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh in August, and Glasgow’s biggest music festival TRNSMT is still scheduled to take place in September.
