JETSTAR will waste no time resuming its flights between Newcastle and Cairns, committing to relaunching the new route as soon as the Queensland government reopens its border to NSW.
The airline announced last night that it would resume direct flights between the two regional cities from December 17, the same day borders restrictions will ease.
The route was only launched in June and the initial flights reportedly had strong bookings before border restrictions halted the service in September.
Operating in both directions three times a week, the flights can carry up to 6000 passengers per month and are expected to bring a tourism boost to both cities over summer.
One-way fares start at $99 and are available from Wednesday. Jetstar is the only airline operating direct flights between the two destinations.
The seasonal route was originally launched in partnership with the Queensland government and was scheduled to operate until October 2021.
Jetstar will run the route until at least April 30, 2022.
