Summer holiday childcare for just £7.50 a day launches across the country

There's some fantastic news for working parents as a new childcare initiative is being rolled out across the country.

The new Active Kids scheme, run by Sainsbury's, offers childcare for just £7.50 a day - including lunch - at 70 locations in the UK.

Clubs run from 9am-4pm over the summer holidays, typically at local primary schools, and are staffed by Premier Education trained and accredited coaches.

Considering figures from Childcare.co.uk showed that on average parents spent a little over £2,000 on childcare last summer, this could produce some huge savings.

"Last year we took a fresh look at how we could help keep kids active and launched our Sainsbury’s Active Kids holiday clubs, replacing our voucher scheme," the Sainsbury's ActiveKids website reads.

"Thousands of children took part last year, enjoying a wide range of activities from fencing and circus skills to tennis and quick cricket, so we’ve expanded this year to 70 locations and are just as committed as ever to keeping kids healthy and active."

And mums seem pretty keen on the deal.

"Booked my kids. I have used the before with no issues, just not at that price. With lunch included is a great price," said Lindsey Bates on the LatestDeals Facebook page.

"That's amazing! I pay £25 for an afternoon so that's a huge saving," Aimée Lea added.

Childcare vouchers could return for new parents after being scrapped in 2018

What's included

You can book as many days as you like over summer, for up to five kids at a time.

Child care clubs are available in 70 locations and for your £7.50 you also get a healthy lunch and snacks for the children.

"Kids will be grouped by age, helping to build their confidence with new people and new activities," Sainsbury's explains.

"We want our holiday clubs to be fun for everyone, so our Active Kids will be trying all sorts of activities including sports such as tennis, gymnastics and dodgeball, alongside arts & crafts, circus skills and the opportunity to try a para-sport."

But you might need to be fast to take advantage.

Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk , said: "The club is held at various schools but you do not have to be a pupil to attend.

"Anyone can go. However, there are very limited spaces so definitely book now to save money and make sure you get a place. I don't think the wider public know about this yet."

"I just looked at one school and there seems to be about 60 spaces for each day. It'll definitely sell out fast."
