Summer camps see less footfall in Jaipur this year due to late school session

JAIPUR: With summer vacations being declared in schools, many summer camps are being organised for children in the city. However, due to late session and late final examinations, students' enrolments in these camps has gone down.

Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK) is organising several camps that include watercolour painting, calligraphy, guitar, Kathak, folk dance, etc. The camp that started from May 16 and will conclude on June 16 is being attended by students from across Jaipur. Officials at JKK said that although students want to take part, late examinations have made it difficult for them.

City Place that has been organising summer camps for the last 24 years, is also seeing a low turnout of students. Ramu Ram Dev, OSD of art and culture at City Palace said, "We are organising classes for mandana, rangoli, flute and Kathak. Our classes will continue till June 30. Students have shown interest in these classes but due to exams they are not able to attend the camp. We are hoping that in a few days the numbers will increase," said Dev.

Rajendra Rao who takes personal classes of Kathak and folk dances, told TOI that strength has gone down by 50% this year.

Many folk artistes are also taking personal classes. Kalyan Joshi, renowned Phad painting artist, is organising his classes in Bhilwara. Students are showing interest, especially those who are interested in taking up painting in later life.

Apart from this, online has also emerged as a good platform to learn different art forms, languages, coding and other classes.

Ramesh Saini, a resident of Raja Park while talking to TOI said that he has enrolled his children for coding and French classes.
