Sulwath Brewery in Castle Douglas claims champion porter prize with Black Galloway brand

A Castle Douglas brewery is celebrating making one of the best beers in Scotland.

Sulwath Brewery has landed CAMRA’s champion porter prize with its Black Galloway brew, which previously won the title in 2017. And a place in the the national finals now awaits for the 4.4 per cent ale.

Owner Allen Henderson said: “When you think about how many breweries there are, it is a fantastic accolade.

“It is the third time in three years we have won it and I think the Black Galloway has won more awards than our other beers.

Organisers of first Castle Douglas Beer Festival hail event's success

“Most of our beers have won awards but I think that has been the most successful yet.

“It is a massive team effort, everyone here works very hard.

“It means our place is secure for the finals in London.”
