'Sulking' Tory MP Lee Anderson branded 'pathetic' over England Euro 2020 boycott

Tory MP Lee Anderson has been accused of "sulking" after sticking by his "pathetic, one-man boycott" of England.

A Labour-backed ad-van roamed his Ashfield constituency today, blasting the Conservative for not cheering on our lads.

Mr Anderson declared he would not be watching England during the Euro 2020, because he objected to players taking the knee in support of anti-racism campaigners.

And today he stuck by his decision, despite England reaching the semi-finals of the tournament.

He said he refused to watch the team because they are "supporting a political movement whose core principles aim to undermine our very way of life."

A Labour source said: "You have to wonder why Lee Anderson would rather sit at home watching re-runs of Murder, She Wrote than cheering on our lads."

And local Labour party chair Stefan Lamb said: “Lee Anderson sulking at home while the rest of us are cheering on this fantastic England side, shows just how out of touch he is.

"He must be deluded if he thinks anyone in Ashfield or elsewhere agrees with his pathetic one-man boycott."

The Labour van quoted a Mirror story following his comments in June, which read "Tory MP Lee Anderson also said he was going to boycott...England."

The van, which loudly played football anthem Three Lions, said "Football's coming home? Not according to Lee Anderson MP!"

After England's 4-0 victory over Ukraine last week, Deputy Labour leader Angela Rayner said: "Thoughts with Lee Anderson tonight, you’ve missed a cracker mate."

In response, Mr Anderson insisted he doesn't go on Twitter "because it's full of idiots."

He told Nottinghamshire Live: "Well there is nothing to update, I stick by my comments three weeks ago.

"Well done, well played I hope it continues."

He added that he hopes England go on to win the tournament but "I won't be watching it, no".
