Former Suits star Wendell Pierce criticised the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for having an interview with Oprah while the world is in the "throes of death".

Speaking to radio station LBC, Pierce, who played Meghan Markle's character's father on the legal drama, said: “Today 3,000 people are going to die in America from Covid... a couple of hundred people are going to die, even this hour, in the UK.”

Of the interview itself, which ran on CBS on Sunday, Pierce said it evoked Shakespeare’s phrase “full of sound and fury signifying nothing”.

Pierce, who had not spoken to Markle since 2019, added: “It was quite insensitive and offensive that we are all complicit in this sort of palace… gossip in the midst of so much death. I think it is insignificant.”

When asked who his criticism was pointed at , Pierce said “everyone”, meaning Oprah, CBS, ITV, Prince Harry and Markle, and the Palace.

The couple’s groundbreaking interview, after airing on CBS, was then played to UK audiences on ITV on Monday night.

During the two-hour TV special, Markle spoke about her time in the Royal Family, opened up about the suicidal ideation she experienced, and said conversations had been had about how dark her child’s skin would be when she was pregnant.

A palace statement released on behalf of the Queen on Tuesday said the “whole family is saddened” by how “challenging” the previous years have been for the royal couple.

It added that the allegations of racism are “concerning” and will be “addressed by the family privately”.
