Warner Bros caused a stir at Comic-Con over the weekend when they premiered first footage from Suicide Squad, featuring an early glimpse of Jared Leto as the Joker.
The footage leaked online following its Comic-Con debut, likely prompting the studio’s subsequent official posting of the promo.
Directed by David (Fury) Ayer, Suicide Squad is part of DC’s new extended universe; a multi-character tale of dangerous criminals working together for the better good.
Major villains who make an appearance in the trailer include the Joker’s right-hand gal, Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith) and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney). The footage ends with a shot of Leto as the Joker. “I’m not going to kill you,” he says. “I’m just going to hurt you really, really bad.”
The film is released on 5 August 2016.
