After years of delays and a revolving door of defense lawyers, Suge Knight will start his murder trial next month, a judge said Tuesday.
"We've got a trial date. We're going forward on that," Judge Ronald Coen said in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
The parties are due back Sept. 19 for a week of motions with the trial set to begin Sept. 24, the judge ruled.
Knight, 53, is fighting charges he murdered Compton businessman Terry Carter and attempted to murder former gang member turned movie set security guard Cle (Bone) Sloan in a restaurant parking lot in February 2015.
Prosecutors claim Knight _ who's been in jail the last 3 { years, unable to make his $10 million bail _ hit the gas on his Ford Raptor truck and intentionally mowed down the men because he was upset with Sloan after a fight at a production office for the Dr. Dre-backed movie "Straight Outta Compton."
Carter's widow said Tuesday she's relieved the trial is finally moving ahead but also has "mixed emotions."
"I'm sad it's something we're still dealing with and frightened about what my feelings will be. We've never charted these waters before," Lillian Carter told the New York Daily News.
"There are no winners for either family," she said.
Knight has cycled through 15 lawyers over the last three years and undergone eye and appendix surgeries during a series of health issues.
"I'm doing great," Knight said in court Tuesday, speaking to a judge handling one of his two other trailing criminal cases.
"I'm good," his latest defense lawyer Albert DeBlanc Jr. told The News when asked if he felt ready to start trial. "It just has to do with so many factors. I can't predict."
Knight claims he was the victim of an armed ambush in the parking lot the day of the alleged murder and only sped away because he feared for his life.
The former cigar-chomping founder of Death Row Records claims he never intended to kill Carter.
"We're ready _ as ready as ready can be," Knight's sister Karen Anderson told The News Tuesday.
"My hope is that my brother comes home soon, because he's innocent," she said.
