Suge Knight, Katt Williams ordered to stand trial in photographer robbery

Oct. 13--Former rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight and comedian Katt Williams were ordered Tuesday to stand trial in connection with charges they stole a photographer's camera outside a Beverly Hills film and TV studio.

A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge heard testimony during the roughly one-hour preliminary hearing and determined there was enough evidence to move toward trial, said Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the L.A. County district attorney's office.

Knight and Williams are scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 27, she said.

Knight and Williams were each charged last October with one count of robbery related to the Sept. 5, 2014, incident.

Prosecutors said Knight, co-founder of Death Row Records, and Williams stole an independent celebrity photographer's camera and chased her down outside the studio.

After chasing her, Beverly Hills police said the pair "forcibly" grabbed her camera. By the time police arrived at the studio, Knight and Williams were gone.

If convicted, Knight could face 30 years to life in prison because of a previous conviction for assault with a deadly weapon. Williams faces a maximum sentence of seven years in custody.

Knight is also set to appear Dec. 11 in court for motions related to his murder trial. He is accused of striking two men with his red truck in the parking lot of Tam's Burgers on Jan. 29 in Compton.

Terry Carter, 55, died, and Cle "Bone" Sloan, 51, was injured in the incident.

Knight, who remains in custody, has pleaded not guilty to murder and attempted murder charges.
