- Sugababes star Keisha Buchanan revealed she was kidnapped as a teenager , an ordeal that occurred while she was balancing school with her early music career.
- The traumatic incident took place just before she was due to sit her GCSEs, leading her parents to opt for a different educational path, meaning she did not complete them.
- Buchanan, now 42, explained on the Live, Laugh, Luke… podcast that she was taken after school by someone and held for a few hours, an experience she largely blocked out at the time.
- She sought therapy to help process the kidnapping, which happened around the time the Sugababes were preparing to release their debut single “Overload” in September 2000.
- Buchanan also shared that after leaving the group, she and Mutya Buena were denied re-entry to their school, unlike fellow original member Siobhán Donaghy, with school officials being dismissive of their pop star aspirations.
